We might be encircled by a phalanx of porta-loos but they haven’t been provided for us. Beyond them two large white tents have been erected In the carpark.
A brief peek inside one of the tents revealed rows of covered kegs and this is the reason why…..
The Devizes 2015 CAMRA festival opens tomorrow and to be honest we are pleased to be leaving. It’s not that we wouldn’t object to wandering around the festival and doing some sampling, but rather the thought of being moored against all those porta-loo’s and how noisy it is likely to get later in the day. I’m still attempting to understand the expression “real ale”. It implies there is also artificial ale? Barry (nb AreandAre) could probably answer that question.
The building that partially obscures our mooring is used by the Devizes Wharf Theatre.
It’s an “all volunteer” organisation and their next show starts on 18 July, Further along the wharf is the Kennet & Avon Canal Museum along with a small cafe and gift shop.
Jan made a visit to the gift shop looking for something small to go in the boat display cabinet. She returned empty handed and disappointed.
The afternoon was spent doing boat maintenance. Some touch-up painting on the roof and then a visit to the garden shed to check the engine and give the compartment a thorough clean. I must have been having a flexi day as I was able to bend over and replace the oil absorption mat under the far end of the engine.
We were slightly surprised to find two other moored boats with kiwi crews. One couple has done a six month exchange with an English couple. They have gone to NZ and have use of the motorhome whilst the kiwis are on the canals for six months. The other kiwi couple is like us and permanently lives aboard.
Youngest son recently showed me a documentary on the subject of internet “Terms & Conditions”. Whilst we have always been aware of the need to secure our personal data, I hadn’t appreciated just how insidious it was agreeing to all those terms and conditions. As a result we have subscribed to a VPN in an effort to further protect our personal information.
