One of the major tourist attractions around Kalbarri is the nearby National Park which contains the 80km long Kalbarri Gorge. It’s a mini version of the Grand Canon in the USA. Ken informed me access to the gorge had recently been upgraded by constructing a sealed road. Prior to this it was a heavily rutted dirt track accessible only by 4WD vehicles. Of course the improvements also included a toll booth to collect an admittance fee.
One of the more recent additions are the two new ‘skywalks’ which are cantilevered off the top of the cliff face.
The gorge isn’t without it’s hazards. The temperature gets very high in summer and there is no water. Several overseas tourists have died of dehydration walking the 8km long Loop Track.
To the NE is another gorge attraction; Natures Window.
It’s on that spur where the cars are parked
Ken rested whilst I walked down to see the “window”
Too many damned tourists!!
This is the furthest north we’re going on this trip. Time to head south along the coastline and visit the small communities.
