We had this peaceful mooring with great neighbours when Jan abruptly announced she could smell Fosters beer. Looking out the side hatch Daniel noticed a burned BBQ sausage drifting by. And then in the distance the faint sounds of “Waltzing Matilda” could be heard on the breeze. Bloody Hell… the Aussies were coming! We frantically untied the ropes, lifted fenders and fitted the tiller arm. Waiouru was almost around the bend when the bow of a boat recognised from familiar photos appeared. Jan took a quick photo as we headed out of sight.
They stopped to take our recently vacated prime mooring spot. Typical, they steal pavlova, Phar Lap, Russell Crowe (they can keep him), Crowded House and now our mooring! It was a narrow escape!
At Clifton Cruisers we stopped to purchase 20 litres of domestic diesel for the Hurricane before moving off to find ourselves a great spot adjacent to the golf course.

Our mooring for the Bank Holiday weekend
We’d not been moored long when the smell of Fosters wafted through the side hatch. They were following us!
The stress got to me and I decided to end it all by stuffing my head in the gas oven. It didn’t work…. the TV was showing “Neighbours” and Kylie was singing on the radio. In the end I just had to go out and face them.
Yes, it was Mick & Elly on nb Parisien Star. They were heading for Braunston where we may see them again after the weekend.
Mick, who put the white stars on the Kiwi flag?
In the afternoon we walked into Rugby to collect my new walking boots which had arrived from the central warehouse. My problem is it takes ages to find footwear that fits my deformed feet. Then when I find the right footwear they discontinue the model. My Meindl Burma Pro boots have now been superseded so I’m buying old stock whilst it is available. However the shop assistant discovered that the received boots had already been worn with obvious scuff marks and creases. The walk wasn’t a total waste of time because Jan was able to buy a light-weight rain jack on sale in Millets.

Good post:-)
Ahh Tom, too funny for words!
From two Kiwi readers living in Gods Zone.
Love it, funny post.

Laughed at this Tom and wry smile at thought of a Braunston mooring this weekend. We went through on Thursday and most reserved for IWA love fest. For sure they'd have to moor before junction or turn towards Napton . We now happily on the Nene after 3 crazy days boating.
Funny Tom!
We didn't know about the festival although it's been quieter than they expected. Lucky to have a mooring.
Will look out for you .
Elly
Hi Elly,
We plan to arrive at Braunston just before noon on Wednesday.
Jan,
We've been following your posts... You are certainly covering some miles!
