Dorfold Hall

Whilst you can get some very clear skies in Australia and New Zealand the geographic location, size of the country and small population means you won’t see this many contrails

The fireworks display on Sunday night was held in the grounds of Dorfold Hall.  I’d previously walked past the estate so on the last occasion I took a few photo’s.

Long driveway

Nice set of gates.  Now electrically operated by a keypad.

The gatekeepers residence.

I’m rather pleased I’m not responsible for mowing the lawns

.....and for an additional piece of canal related trivia! Way back when, at the time of the construction of the Shropshire Union Canal, (then an extension of the Chester Canal), the squire and owner of Dorfold Hall Estate refused point blank to allow the canal to be built across his land, despite all the financial benefits being laid before him. He stuck to his guns, and as a result the route of the canal past this area sweeps around the estate in a large arc. Had permission been granted, the canal route would have been much more direct, and the position of current landmarks such as Nantwich Basin, and the aqueduct over Chester Road, would probably have been built elsewhere, or not required at all.
