Sounds in the Night

Jan woke at 3.00am and decided to get quietly out of bed to have a cuppa.  Suddenly she was taken by surprise when Ufton started to crack and groan as if the steel was fracturing.  The damned boat was sinking!  Then it dawned on her the boat was trapped in ice and the noise was the sound of the ice grinding and breaking against the hull from her moving around.

We both woke at 6.30am to find it rather cold.  Actually, only our noses were visible from under the thick white duvet.  I said to Jan “We must look like a couple of well fed maggots!”  Which resulted in us simultaneously having a good laugh.

Around midday nb Conqueror returned to the wharf.  You could tell a boat was coming long before seeing it as the layer of ice on the surface of the canal stated to groan and snap.

Better view of the breaking ice in this photo.

The forecast is for -6°C tonight which will likely result in all this fractured and overlapping ice re-freezing.  Still the forecast for Sunday and Monday is warmer temperatures so this ice is likely to melt.  It’s interesting to hear the temperature on the east coast of Australia is very low for the time of the year (summer) and in contrast the UK winter has been very mild to date.  Obviously we bought some warmth and sunshine to England. Winking smile

Another tin of white bilge & locker paint has been delivered to the boatyard so it looks like my painting days will recommence tomorrow.  Slip, slap, slop………run, droop!

Time for remedial spelling and punctuation…….

photo’s, photo’s, photo’s, photo’s, photo’s, photo’s, photo’s, photo’s, photo’s photos, photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos photos

Private joke….. Just doing my lines for Favourite Mother-in-Law!!!! Smile

I have wondered about the punctuation of that word as well and have come to reason that the correct version is photo's. The logic is that it is not ownership it is abbreviation. ie. photo's is sort or photographs hence the ' (same rule as you're for you are, hadn't etc). I could be wrong though :-).
Either way there are bloggers considerably worse than you.

Hi Don,

I'd be willing to place money that they don't have a "Favourite Mother-in-Law" (FMIL) who is prepared to phone them from the far side of the world to correct their punctuation!

Isn't that right Mum! :-)
