Unannounced Visitor and Disturbing News

We had rain today.  Hopefully the last of the spring rain as there are things I’d like to do outside.  The rain will make the farmers happy.  It looks like there will be a bumper grain harvest in the west this year.

An unannounced visitor decided to take advantage of the rain and have a wash.

Kookaburra's have taken up residence in a neighbour’s large gumtree and been raising a family.  Their young are of an age where their voices are breaking which is making an amusing hash of their attempts to call out.  It’s only when you see them up close that you realise just how big the adults are and what a powerful beak they have.  I rather like Kookaburras for their diet. They eat snakes, lizards, small mammals, frogs, rodents, bugs, beetles and worms.  Obviously not vegan!

Obviously not worried by the rain!

Some not so welcome news from the UK.  Our youngest son has COVID and, despite being fully vaccinated, .he isn’t feeling too great.  He has lost his sense of smell and taste and has a ‘croaky’ voice.  Ten days home quarantine for him along with some bed rest.

Hope your son soon feels better. Our daughter and granddaughter came to the wedding end of their 10 days quarantine on Monday so we were able see them on Tuesday after coming home to Wales on Sunday for a week. Glad to say neither of them were very ill. Love your photo of the kookaburra. Hope you and Jan are keeping well.

Hi Judith, Youngest son phoned today. He sounded much better but has yet to get back his sense of smell and taste. We are fine in "COVID Free" western Australia. It's the other side of the continent where the police are using batons and rubber bullets on the recalcitrants :-)

Hi Tom and Jan, sorry to hear that your son has covid, but good to hear that he is not too ill. It is not going away - I am afraid we have to learn to live with it. Jennie and Chris

Hi Tom,
I think Vitamin D as well as zinc supplements are the suggested remedies for the loss of taste and smell.
It's a good thing your son is fully vaccinated, isn't it?
Cheers, Marilyn

Marilyn I have already suggested to him he rub pig fat behind his ears and Vicks in his groin :-) Apparently he is feeling better and has been told he should get smell and taste back within 10 days.

We... and he... are not anti-vacc. We were all at the front of the queue !!

You have to wonder how being double vaccinated still allows the virus to take hold, even a lighter dose as seems to happen. Glad you son is improving, must be the pig fat and vicks vapour rub doing the trick!

Jenny nothing is 100% perfect. Well apart from ME! The vaccines just significantly reduce the likelihood and consequences. He is feeling much better and I attribute it to the Vicks :-)

Hi Tom and Jan.

Sorry to hear about your son. I sincerely hope he gets better soon. Our kids have all had Covid-19 and have thankfully come through it okay. Nice to see you have rain, just like the UK at the moment.

Kind regards
Jo & Keith.

Hi Jo & Keith,

Thank you for the kind thoughts. He appears to be well on the mend. We're just thankful he went and got vaccinated as soon as he was eligible.
