Well yesterday was T-shirt and shorts weather, but today it was fleece and coat. I almost wore my beanie! It appears we are going to have a few more days of cold weather. This morning we moved up through Grove Lock which we shared with a single-hander. He continued on whilst we stopped for a pump-out. After three weeks the tank gauge was bouncing around the ¼ full mark. We didn’t really need to empty it but having heard the Aylesbury Arm can be shallow in places we decided to have as little weight in the back as possible. The machine had excellent suction and the price was reasonable at £16.50. First paragraph and I’m already writing about toilets!

We caught up with the single hander at the next lock and were with him for the remainder of our day. The boat looked vaguely familiar and the connection was made when he mentioned he’d previously been cruising the Kennet & Avon.

The Grand Union (previously the Grand Junction) Canal was originally constructed with narrow locks and signs of these can still be seen either in the by-wash or bridge arches.
A group of walkers stopped to admire us going up Ivinghoe Top Lock and when one lady produce a camera I promptly started to comb my hair and smile. Our lock companion said to Jan “What a Tart!”
We eventually decided to cease cruising at 2pm mooring below Marsworth Bottom Lock and have a late lunch.
Later in the day a boat horn sounded and we looked out the window to see Chris & Alison (nb Doo Lalli Ali) heading south. We last met on 31 October 2014 above Calcutt Top Lock. There was just time for one of those very brief boaters conversations before they continued on towards Marsworth Junction.
