Last night the room shook. It has been several years since I last experienced an earthquake and it took me several milliseconds to realise what was happening. Should I dive for security in the bathroom doorway? In the end I didn't bother and just waited to see if there were going to be any aftershocks. There weren't!
The B&B supplied breakfast on a balcony immediately above my room. One of the first things I noticed about this modern B&B was the roof. It was made of solar panels.
My estimate was the owners were producing far more electricity than they consumed. I also appeared to be the only guest..
Breakfast was provided on the balcony and it would be one of the better B&B breakfasts I've had on the trip to date
A fried egg in a bun (ate it before it got cold) covered in mayonnaise. Tasted OK! Three pieces of cold sausage and three of baby corn. A paper cup containing a ball of cold mashed potato with some veggies. A portion of salad and half of what looked like a pale Kiwi Fruit. It wasn't Kiwi Fruit!
After paying for the accommodation I started cycling north along the coastal road. No planned destination. I'd cycle until either I felt tired or accommodation might start to get hard to find.
In the end I cycled about 82km stopping because accommodation was starting to get difficult to find and it was darned hot!!!
Seen along the way
Can you see the swastika in the middle of the Buddha's chest?
And then I reached the east coast Tropic of Cancer marker
No I hadn't! It's a large sundial. The Tropic of Cancer marker was a further 400 metres.
I should have realised as the food and souvenir stalls surrounded the marker.
I reached my B&B just after 3PM desperately in need of a shower
The cycling clothes were washed in the handbasin and hung to dry. They are synthetic and dry very quickly.
Tomorrow I'll cycled to Hualien.
